The Menomonee Falls Public Library food, drink, and smoking policy is intended to maintain a welcoming, clean, and comfortable environment conducive to reading, learning, and other library activities, while preserving library collections, equipment, and furnishings.

Library users who do not comply with this policy will be notified and asked to relocate to an appropriate space or leave the Library.


Non-alcoholic drinks in covered, spill-proof containers or capped bottles are permitted throughout the Library with the exception of:

  • Local History Room


Dry, non-perishable snacks (crackers, chips, nuts, etc.) are permitted throughout the Library with the exception of the following areas:

  • iPads
  • Public, Catalog, and Gaming computer areas
  • Microfilm machine and computer area
  • Local History Room


Meals are permitted only in the following areas and may not include messy or strong-smelling foods:

  • 1st and 2nd Floor Patios
  • 2nd Floor Snack/Vending area

Food deliveries may only be received outside, and may be eaten only in designated areas.

Waste Disposal and Clean-up

Patrons are expected to clean-up and dispose of all food waste, beverage containers, wrappers, etc. in a designated waste or recycling bin. All spaces must be left clean. Staff must be notified immediately of any spills. Unattended food and/or beverages will be discarded.


Smoking is prohibited in the library, including both enclosed patios, by state law (Wisconsin Statutes 101.123 (2)).  The library extends this prohibition to smoking of artificial and electronic cigarettes and the use of chewing tobacco.
