All you need is a garden and a library

A Place to Grow

“If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need.” — Cicero

Much like a garden, the library is a place that encourages growth. The bookshelves are filled with facts and ideas that help our minds blossom. From the pragmatic—travel guides and car manuals—to the recreational—bestselling mysteries and colorful picture books—the library serves as an environment to nurture visitors of all ages. In the spirit of learning and growing, the library has planned some fun events for nature enthusiasts. (See below) Additionally, if you are new to horticulture or would like to make your flower beds the envy of the neighborhood, check out these handpicked gardening books!

Container Gardening with an Expert

Tuesday, May 10 at 6:30 PM

Flower gardening can take a lot of talent and effort. But if you are starting out as a gardener or experimenting with container gardening, this program is for you! Ann Wied from the Horticulture and Community Development Outreach at the UW Extension in Waukesha County will present a class on container gardening.  She will build a 12-inch pot full of flowers as a part of the presentation and raffle it off after the program is complete.

Seed Exchange

Like the puzzle exchange, the seed library will be a place to share your extra seeds and pick up new ones to plant, free of charge! The seed library cabinet is located on the first floor near the information wall. Take some seeds, leave some seeds! We ask that they are not extremely old and please include growing instructions.

Monarch Butterflies

August 2022

The population of monarch butterflies, known for their orange and black coloring, is declining. These pollinators are important for flowers and vegetables — especially prairie wildflowers native to Wisconsin. In an effort to help boost their population and educate children about butterflies, the library will be raising monarchs in an enclosure in the lobby. Stop by to see their progress and check out a book on flowers, pollinators, and conservation.
