Libraries solve problems and transform lives: Menomonee Falls Public Library launches new promotional campaign

Libraries Transform: Because for every $1 invested in Wisconsin libraries, $4 return to our communitiesBecause books are just the beginning. Because 1 card gets you over 2,000,000 items. Because everyone is welcome. Those are just a few answers to the question: “Why libraries?” This February, Menomonee Falls Public Library (MFPL), together with the Bridges Library System and the public libraries in Waukesha and Jefferson counties, is launching a month-long public awareness campaign called Libraries Transform to highlight how libraries transform their communities by providing access to information, opportunities for personal growth, and solutions to real problems.

As open, welcoming community spaces, today’s libraries are not just about what they have for people, but what they do for people. Libraries across the nation and in Waukesha County stand on the front lines of budget cuts, rises in unemployment, and social service gaps to address each citizen’s unique needs, whether that includes looking for jobs, practicing English, finding information on a medical procedure, making wise health or consumer choices, or learning new technology skills . The driving force behind the library’s mission is the knowledge that empowered citizens equal stronger communities. By offering each citizen opportunities and equal access to information and resources, the library contributes to a community-wide growth in education, employment, entrepreneurship, and engagement.

As part of the Libraries Transform campaign, MFPL and the Bridges Library System will be highlighting the many ways in which libraries fill the gaps and solve problems for their citizens. Waukesha and Jefferson county libraries are hosting special programs during the month of February to encourage people to visit their library and see what’s offered. Menomonee Falls’ special program is a Mardi Gras celebration for all ages on Saturday, February 10 from 1:00 – 3:00 PM. The program includes a juggling show, photo booth, crafts, games, and other activities. Those attending at least three Libraries Transform programs throughout the month are eligible to enter a prize drawing.

A number of community and business leaders are partnering with MFPL to show support for the Library through a READ poster initiative. The community READ posters will be on display in the Library throughout the month of February.

We welcome everyone to stop in this February to see how libraries can transform your life.
