1000 Books Before Kindergarten

1000 Books Before KindergartenThe Menomonee Falls Public Library participates in the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program. This free program challenges you to read 1000 books with your child before he or she starts school. One of the best ways to encourage learning is to spend time sharing books every day. Reading together helps develop important pre-reading skills that provide a solid foundation, a key to school and learning success. Plus, sharing stories together is fun!

It is easy to participate! Here’s how:

  1. Read together.
  2. Color in a shape on your Road to Reading log for each book you read. If you read a book more than once, you can record it each time. Books read to your child at library storytime, at daycare or by others also count!
  3. When you finish 100 books, bring your sheet to the library to receive a sticker and collect your next Road to Reading log. Share your favorite books with your librarian.
  4. For every 100 books you read, you’ll receive a different Road to Reading log and a sticker. Each log will include early literacy tips to help you share the love of reading with your child.
  5. When you reach 100, 300, and 600 books read, bring your sheets to the library and receive a prize for reaching these milestones.
  6. After finishing 1000 books, your child receives a book and a certificate, and gets an awesome jumpstart on success in school.

This program is sponsored by the Menomonee Falls Library Friends.
