Exciting things are on the horizon at the Menomonee Falls Public Library! After months of planning, fundraising, and dreaming about the future of our space, we’re thrilled to announce that our first floor renovation project will officially begin on November 4, 2026, with construction expected to continue through mid-April 2027.
This project is about more than just a fresh coat of paint. We’re investing in a brighter, more welcoming, accessible, and secure Library that will better serve our community for years to come. Improvements will include updated flooring, furnishings, lighting, signage, and enhancements to several key spaces throughout the first floor, not including our beautiful Children’s Library which was renovated in 2024.
And don’t worry—we’re still here for you throughout construction!
What to Expect During Construction
Renovations will take place in phases to minimize interruptions to Library services and keep as much of the building accessible as possible. While there may be some temporary closures, noise, and changes to how you navigate the building, our goal is to make the process as smooth as possible for everyone.
Phase One: Community Room Hallway and Board Room – November 4, 2026, through Early December
Our first phase will focus on the hallway leading to the Community Room and the Board Room. These spaces will receive a much-needed refresh, including new flooring, fresh paint, and improved lighting.
The Board Room will also receive technology upgrades, including a new presentation screen available for public use when reserving the space. A new conference table and comfortable chairs will finish off our updates to the space.
During this phase, the Community Room and Board Room will be temporarily unavailable. Looking for an alternative meeting or gathering space? Check out our CoLabs or Children’s Program Room! Availability and reservation requirements may vary.
We’ll share updates as construction progresses and additional areas are scheduled for renovation.
A Few Temporary Changes
With construction comes a little creative space management! To help us make room for the work ahead, we’re making some temporary adjustments:
- Material Donations: We are not accepting book or other material donations at this time due to space limitations. Please hold onto your donations until spring, when we’ll begin collecting again ahead of our next book sale. We appreciate your understanding!
- Puzzle Swap: The puzzle swap is unavailable until Spring. But puzzle lovers, don’t despair! Check our event calendar for four “Puzzle Social and Exchange” events in November through December. There will also be a Puzzle Exchange Table set up at our Scrabble and Bingo events during the same timeframe. You can still find opportunities to trade puzzles and connect with fellow enthusiasts.
Thank you for helping us keep our spaces clear and safe while we work toward something wonderful!
How Are We Paying for This Project?
We know that investing in our Library is an investment in our community, and we want to be transparent about how this project is being funded.
The renovation is being made possible through a combination of Library savings, Village funding, grant support, and generous private donations.
Here’s a breakdown of our current funding sources:
Funding Source | Amount |
Library Fund Balance | $573,194 |
Village Fund 605 | $200,000 |
Capital Campaign Donations | $111,000+ |
Grants | $3,300 |
What does that mean?
The Library Fund Balance consists of money accumulated over the years from unspent operating funds and revenue exceeding budget projections. A significant portion has come from interest earned on Library accounts. The fund balance includes revenue from a variety of sources, including donations, grants, service fees, and some tax-supported funding.
The $200,000 from Village Fund 605 comes from tipping fees paid by Waste Management through its landfill agreement with the Village. These are not tax dollars.
Our capital campaign is funded entirely through private donations from individuals, businesses, and community organizations. The $3,300 grants are also non-tax funded sources.
No tax dollars from the Library’s 2026 operating budget have been allocated towards this project.
The best part? Every dollar raised through our capital campaign reduces the amount the Library needs to spend from its Fund Balance, allowing us to reserve these funds for other projects, emergencies, and more.
Help Us Build the Next Chapter!
We’ve already surpassed $111,000 in donations toward our $500,000 Library Building Improvement Capital Campaign goal, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has helped us get this far.
But we’re not finished yet!
Community support is essential to making this transformation possible. Every contribution, large or small, helps us create a Library that continues to meet the evolving needs of Menomonee Falls.
If the Library has been a place where you’ve discovered a favorite book, attended a memorable program, learned something new, or connected with your community, we invite you to be part of its next chapter.
