Behind the Scenes: Donations Part Two

You’re at the Library with your donations. What happens next?

You’re at the Library! Bring your donations to the staff at the checkout desk in the lobby. If you have a large number of items to donate, please call ahead and we can provide a cart for you to transport the items from your vehicle. Staff at the checkout desk will double check with you that they meet the requirements and ask you to remove anything that doesn’t qualify. Check yesterday’s post about what donations the Library will take.

The donations then travel to our workroom and are held until staff have time to sort them. The staff who sort donations are the same team members that you see at the checkout and information desks!

Add, Swap, or Sell

Items in perfect condition or meet other criteria, such as publication dates within three years, go to the selectors. Selectors are the Librarians who carefully cultivate the Library’s collection. This is where items may be added as additional copies of popular titles or to replace worn-out copies on the shelves.  If an item is getting added or being swapped with a worn-out copy, the selector will hand it off to the cataloger to have it added to the shelves as soon as possible.

Selectors could also choose to sell the item, sending it to the book sale room.

The book sale room is small but packed with many books. We organize it so replenishing the ongoing sale is quick and setting up sales is easy. Items withdrawn from the Library’s collection also come to this room. We do our best to keep genres together so you can find your favorites.

Staff and volunteers work hard to keep the ongoing sale full for you to browse at every visit.

Gift materials have significantly enriched our collections. We have an on-going sale in our lobby and semi-annual book sales in Spring and Fall.

How to Support Your Library in Other Ways:

  • Use YOUR Library: Let us know what you like and need.
  • Share Your Experience: Tell others about the Library. Write us a review. September is Library Card Sign-up Month, so it’s a great time to stop in and tell your friends!
  • Monetary Donations: We encourage and welcome, gifts, endowment funds, and bequests.
  • Supplies or Sponsorships: Donate craft supplies or sponsor a Library program.
  • Volunteering: Help out through our volunteer program.

Your donations and support make a big difference in our Library! Thank you!
