Stuck at home? Let us bring the Library to you! With help from our volunteers, Menomonee Falls Public Library has a robust home delivery service for qualifying individuals unable to visit the library.
Home delivery driver Joyce Gohr tells us a little more about her involvement with the program.
“I think I started in 2019, maybe? 2018!” Joyce says.
Joyce has worked on many projects as a longtime volunteer of the Library. She has pulled home delivery materials, worked on RFID tagging, and helped in the local history room. Her favorite part of the library is the Lucky Day collection. “I’m here every two weeks early in the morning, so I’ve gotten some really great finds.”
Home Delivery Service
Our monthly home delivery service serves individuals whose library access may be limited on a long or short-term basis. We work with older people as well as disabled patrons, and those incapacitated due to illness, injury, or pregnancy. We’ll meet with you before your service starts and talk about your preferences regarding what materials you want to receive. Then, we’ll pair you with one of our volunteers, like Joyce! Deliveries take place Wednesday through Saturday during a pre-determined delivery week. Your volunteer will call to arrange a drop off time.
Joyce loves being able to connect with new people. “I would have to say that with one of my patrons, she and I have formed a really good relationship and came to find out we have a shared faith. We talk so much about things in life, rather than only about her books for 10 minutes. I’ve been known to stay and visit with her for an hour and 45 minutes! Just forming what’s become a really great friendship with her has been a great memory,” Joyce said.
“Working with people—the patrons that couldn’t get to the library and visiting them, bringing them joy, because I love to read, too. I want to see that someone can get them the materials they need. I hope that someone will be able to do the same for me some day! That was very appealing to me.”
Delivery Options
Menomonee Falls Public Library volunteers deliver to local assisted living facilities, private residences, and retirement housing.
We also work with deaf, hard of hearing, and visually impaired patrons of all ages. The Library’s home delivery service is able to help individuals connect with the Wisconsin Talking Book and Braille Library, a free resource through the National Library Service for the Blind and Print Disabled. Thanks to the NLS’s national network, you’ll never have to worry about service interruption, even if you no longer call Wisconsin home someday.
