Magic Desktop Enchants Children’s Library

Have you noticed a special new addition to the computers in the Children’s area at your library? We’ve equipped two of the public computers with Magic Desktop, an educational software program for kids ages two years and up.

  • What is Magic Desktop?

Magic Desktop is “a safe, educational computer environment where children can learn, play, and develop important skills.” For over twenty years, Magic Desktop has created child-friendly computer environments used in over two hundred countries around the world.

  • How does it work?

The Magic Desktop program turns a regular Windows computer into a safe and educational outlet for children. An internet browser is not accessible. Instead, the program harnesses the “power of play.” Kids may choose from a selection of dozens of different educational games. Like games featuring favorite characters (Clifford, Arthur, etc.) or games that teach keyboard and mouse skills. An experienced team of programmers, designers, and educators designed each game. As they play, children will also be learning and building skills in language, science, math, visual art and more!

  • What else do I need to know?

There are no passwords or other login information necessary. The screens may be used as touchscreens or with the keyboard and mouse. They are available for use anytime the library is open. Children simply sit down, click or tap the screen, and begin exploring this exciting new part of the Children’s library. Your library staff can’t wait to see what you learn!
