Your library is here to help you through all stages of life. For new and expecting parents, the library can support you through educational resources for adults, engaging activities to promote early literacy for kids, and it is a wonderful place to meet other families in your community. Here are just a few ways we are here to help!
Home Delivery
If you are confined to bed rest due to pregnancy, you may qualify for our Home Delivery service. This is a free program where library volunteers will deliver Menomonee Falls Public Library materials directly to your door. Items are delivered once a month and include titles of your own choosing or ones a library staff member selects for you based on your preferences. You can learn more about the program and find out how to apply on our website.
Online Resources
Your library is also available to you 24/7 through our online resources! You can use Libby to check out digital resources on your computer, phone, or tablet. Or you can search through Consumer Reports to compare the ratings and reviews of dozens of strollers, car seats, and other everyday items. You can find an alphabetical list to our Digital Library on our website.
The Quiet Room
Located near Children’s Audiovisual, we have a dedicated sensory friendly space called the Quiet Room. This space is specifically designed for children who are feeling overwhelmed and need a break. It features a noise machine, a light machine, multiple seating options, and sensory toys. The Quiet Room also has a diaper changing station, and families are welcome to use the glider for feeding. The Children’s Department also has a family bathroom with a changing table. The Quiet Room is available on a first come, first serve basis.
Books for Everyone
Your library has books for all ages and stages of life both in the library and online! Babies can explore our board book collection. These books are specifically designed with thick pages to make them easy to turn and durable in tiny hands. Board books offer tons of fun through their lift-the-flap surprises, their touch and feel sensory pages, and they are filled with vocabulary meant to help your babies form their first words. You can even request a book bundle from a librarian!
The second floor of the library is home to our books for adults. Our nonfiction collection is a great place for resources on parenthood. You can browse section 929 for all the best baby names, and section 155 features books about child psychology, or look into section 305 for books on child development. Ask a librarian for title recommendations, and we would be happy to show you around!
Storytime
Your library offers multiple storytimes for ages 0 – 5. We host weekly morning storytimes during the school year, outdoor storytimes in the summer, a monthly storytime in the evening, and even a sensory-friendly storytime on select Saturdays! These programs are the perfect opportunity to get your child excited about reading, to work on their gross motor skills, to get out their wiggles, and for you to meet other families in our community. Check out our events calendar to find out when the next storytime is!
1,000 Books Before Kindergarten
Did you know that reading three books a day with your child means that you have read over 1,000 in a single year? Your Library offers the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program to help encourage pre-reading skills and ensure success for when your child starts school. This program is completely free and your child can earn prizes like free books and a stuffed animal reading buddy as you reach different milestones. Books read at storytime count too! You can learn more about the program on our website or visit the Children’s Desk to sign up!
Early Literacy Corner
At the entrance to the Children’s Library is a trail of doggy pawprints that will lead you straight into our Early Literacy Corner! This area is geared towards ages 0 – 5 and features books and toys for our youngest patrons. You can read together inside the tree, play with the rotating toys we have in our dramatic play area, or play with our train table. This is also a great place to meet friends for a play date or meet new families.
Your library is here to help with all the exciting changes in life, and we can’t wait to grow with you and family!
